The Saint John Sea Dogs took time off the ice this week to visit local schools and minor hockey teams. Players engaged with students and young athletes across the region between October 5 and October 11.
Rothesay Elementary School Visit
On October 6, several players visited Rothesay Elementary School. Matyáš Čančík, Oliver Ozogany, Jesse Dunlap, Jabez Seymour, Logan Roop, Ryan Howard, Lawrence Williams and Brandon Delarosbil spent time with students. They visited classrooms, played games in the gym and joined kids on the playground.
“A big thank you to the Sea Dogs players for an amazing visit today,” said Sarah Blanchard, Principal of Rothesay Elementary School. “From thoughtful classroom conversations with our Grades 3 to 5 students to fun on the playground with our younger learners, they made a lasting impression on our school community. We can’t wait to cheer them on and return the favour when our choir sings O Canada on October 17!”
Connecting at École Samuel de Champlain
The community outreach continued on October 7 at École Samuel de Champlain. Team captain Olivier Groulx and alternate captains Alexis Joseph, Alex Donovan and Julien Lanthier led discussions about teamwork, leadership and perseverance. Students also competed against the players in Minute to Win It challenges.
“Thank you again for joining us today! The visit went wonderfully, and our students absolutely loved having the Sea Dogs players here. It was such a great opportunity for them to connect with francophone players, hear their stories, and see positive role models from our community,” said Caroline Cormier, Vice Principal at École Samuel de Champlain. “The energy in the theatre was incredible, and the students were so engaged throughout the visit.”
Supporting Minor Hockey
Later that evening, Groulx and Donovan joined the KV U11 Gargoyles on the ice. The Sea Dogs leaders attended the minor hockey team’s first practice of the season. They showed their support for local sports and connected with young players starting their new year.
