City Provides Update on Housing for All Strategy
The City of Saint John has released a progress update on its Housing for All Strategy, a plan focused on providing a compassionate and coordinated response to homelessness. The latest report highlights significant developments in the establishment of sanctioned living spaces, known as Green Zones, and continued outreach efforts in unsanctioned encampments, or Red Zones.

Green Zone Developments
According to the City’s official update, the Green Zone site on Egbert Street is now nearly full, with 25 of its 27 housing units occupied. This indicates a strong demand for safe and supported living spaces.
Progress is also well underway at the second Green Zone location on Thorne Avenue. The site preparation is complete, and the property has been officially handed over to the community organization 12 Neighbours for management. The first housing units began arriving on October 20, with full installation planned ahead of the site welcoming its first participants on November 1.
Addressing Unsanctioned Encampments
The strategy also involves direct engagement with individuals living in Red Zones. City outreach teams have conducted 113 engagements with people in these areas. These efforts have led to nine encampment relocations and the cleanup of seven vacated encampments, as the city works to transition individuals to safer housing options.
The city states it remains committed to a people-first approach, aiming to build a safer and more supportive community for all residents.
