Uptown Saint John Loses Another Staple

Another popular dining spot in Uptown Saint John is set to close its doors. TOPS Eatery has officially announced it will cease operations effective end of day February 8, 2026.
The management team shared the news via a statement on their Facebook page, citing a need to realign their business strategy within the current market environment. The decision was described as being made with a “heavy heart.”

A Legacy of Local Flavours
The location has a long history in the city. When the current owners purchased the building from Paul Daeres, the Daeres family allowed the new management to continue using the original TOPS Pizza and Restaurant menu. The new owners rehired most of the original staff and introduced an Indian menu alongside the classic offerings to create a unique multi-cuisine experience.
In their farewell message, the team expressed gratitude to the Daeres family for their consistent support and for helping train staff on the original recipes.

Community and Staff Support
The announcement specifically highlighted the dedication of the restaurant’s staff members—Alex, Mike, Nancy, Flo, Karm, Mike Alward, Fauber, Linda, Jahnvi, and Debbie who remained with the business through its final chapter.
“We have been deeply moved by the overwhelming support and kind messages we have received since the news was shared on social media,” the TOPS Eatery Team stated. “Your support and memories will always remain with us.”
