If you rely on virtual health services in New Brunswick, your experience is about to change. The provincial government awarded a new virtual care contract to Foundever Assistance Services Corp. The transition to this new provider begins in June.
What This Means for Your Healthcare
Foundever is not new to the province. The company has provided health services to New Brunswickers for over 28 years and currently operates the TeleCare 811 service. According to the Department of Health, this new agreement brings several upgrades to how you access care.
You can now book specific phone appointments instead of sitting in a virtual waiting room. The service also includes case management and follow up care for high needs patients. You have access to bilingual service seven days a week, provided by nurse practitioners licensed right here in New Brunswick.
Integration and Security
The new system connects directly with existing provincial health networks. This includes electronic medical records, community health systems, NB Health Link, and lab referral systems. The government requires all patient information to remain securely stored within Canada.
“This new contract will benefit New Brunswickers through an improved virtual care experience for patients that includes the ability to book phone appointments, provide case management and follow up care for high needs patients, and schedule appointments instead of having a virtual waiting room,” said Health Minister John Dornan. “The selected provider has strong roots in the province and a proven track record of providing New Brunswickers with TeleCare 811 service. We are confident they will continue to do so as the provider of virtual care.”
The Financial Details
The province signed a two year contract with Foundever, which includes options to renew annually for another two years. The government set an annual budget of $12.9 million. This budget covers up to 250,000 services per year. The province only pays for services as the provider delivers them.
