The City of Saint John is preparing for a massive infrastructure renewal project on the west side, and you have a chance to see the plans before shovels hit the dirt.
During the 2026 construction season, crews will tackle full street reconstructions and essential water and sewer upgrades along St. John Street, from Lancaster Street to City Line, and Dufferin Row, from City Line to 360 Dufferin Row.
What to Expect from the Upgrades
This project tackles aging infrastructure. The city plans to renew existing watermains and sanitary sewers while installing a completely new storm sewer to improve water separation.
Above ground, you will see a complete street transformation. The planned upgrades include new concrete curbs, fresh sidewalks, updated asphalt, new roadway gravels, and the addition of grass medians and trees.
Traffic Disruptions and Timelines
Construction kicks off in June 2026 and wraps up by the end of October 2026. You can expect traffic disruptions during this time. Crews will set up partial and full street closures, along with signed detours. However, the city notes that local traffic will have access whenever possible.
