If you use Uride to get around Saint John, expect to pay a little more for your next trip. New Brunswick’s only ride hailing app added a $1 fuel surcharge to all fares to help drivers handle climbing gas prices.

Supporting Local Drivers
The company implemented the surcharge in early April when fuel costs began a sharp climb. Every extra dollar you pay goes directly into the pockets of the drivers. Uride calculated this specific amount by tracking exactly how much extra money drivers spend on fuel each day.
Uride CEO Cody Ruberto says the move keeps vehicles on the road and ensures passengers get picked up on time.
“Without drivers you don’t have a company, and people won’t be getting picked up,” Ruberto said. “We got to make sure the drivers are happy, taken care off, and that’s it’s worth their time and effort to be on the road to get everyone home safe.”
Growing in New Brunswick
Uride focuses specifically on smaller communities. The Ontario based company first launched its New Brunswick operations in Fredericton in 2021. It now provides regular service in Saint John and Moncton.
The new surcharge allows drivers to maintain their regular trip volumes without losing money at the pump. Ruberto notes the company will increase the surcharge if gas prices continue to rise.
“We’ll keep doing everything we can to make sure customers are saving money but at the same time making sure drivers are compensated through these volatile gas prices,” Ruberto said.
