If you live in Saint John, you likely remember the tragic 2021 death of Courtney MacKenzie. Nearly five years after police found her body, investigators have made a third arrest. According to a report from CTV News Atlantic, the Saint John Police Force took a 37 year old woman into custody on Tuesday.

The Latest Arrest
Police arrested the unnamed 37 year old woman for being an accessory after the fact and improperly interfering with human remains. She also faces charges of forcible confinement, robbery, assault causing bodily harm, and theft involving another female victim. Police released her on an undertaking with conditions. She will appear in provincial court on July 27. Interestingly, police previously arrested this same woman in April 2023 in connection with MacKenzie’s death but did not lay charges at that time.
Two Other Suspects Face Charges
This week brings a total of three arrests in the case. Police also arrested 39 year old Terrance Keleher. He faces several serious charges including manslaughter, improperly interfering with human remains, kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and assault. Keleher appeared in provincial court on Tuesday and remains in custody until his next court date on May 19. A 40 year old unnamed man also faces charges of being an accessory after the fact and improperly interfering with human remains. Police released him on an undertaking and he will appear in court at a later date.

Police Provide Updates on the Investigation
Saint John Police Force Staff Sergeant Shawna Fowler confirmed the three accused individuals and MacKenzie knew each other. She declined to share the exact nature of their relationships or MacKenzie’s cause of death. Fowler explained the lengthy timeline of the investigation.
“These investigations are complex,” Fowler said. “They are lengthy, waiting for evidence to come back, tying up some loose ends, making sure that everything is done very thoroughly, and then there is consultations with the Crown to review the charges, to review the file, and then making sure that we have everything that is needed for the judicial process.”
Fowler hopes these arrests bring some relief to MacKenzie’s family.
“Even though people do not hear maybe from us or for a long extended period of time, it does not mean that we have forgotten,” Fowler added. “We are still in the backgrounds, putting in the work and making sure that we are diligent and relentless in the pursuit of justice for these people.”
Police do not expect any further arrests at this time.
