Saint John brings a full lineup to the waterfront for Canada Day 2026. On Wednesday, July 1, the area transforms into a massive free celebration zone featuring live music, family activities, and a fireworks finale. The City of Saint John recently announced the full schedule, and you will find plenty of reasons to head uptown.

Live Music at The Gathering Space
The Boardwalk Amphitheatre at Ihtoli maqahamok serves as the main hub for live entertainment. The day kicks off with an opening ceremony and cake cutting at noon. Throughout the afternoon, you catch performances by Hope King and the David Myles Band. Later in the evening, 80s tribute band Just Like Heaven takes the stage to get the crowd moving.
At 9:00 p.m., Montreal alternative hip hop collective Bran Van 3000 takes over as the headliner. They bring hits like “Drinking in L.A.” and “Astounded” to the waterfront to wrap up the musical performances.
AREA 506 Container Village Activities
For family fun, the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village is your destination. Activities run all afternoon, including face painting, roaming magic shows, and a circus school with aerial performances.
Because Canada is hosting the FIFA World Cup 26, Canadian Heritage is sponsoring a special soccer themed activity. Families visit a free custom Team Canada jersey station to create their own gear.
Battle of the Bands Finale
The container village also hosts the regional final showdown for the Battle of the Bands between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Three local high school bands compete for a chance to open at the upcoming AREA 506 Festival. The finalists are Left Unread from Kennebecasis Valley High School, Velvet Brain Recruitment from Saint John High School, and Bloodshed in Your Honour from Simonds High School.
Fireworks Display
The night concludes with a massive fireworks display over Long Wharf. The show begins at 10:00 p.m., weather permitting, providing a perfect end to the holiday.
