Port Saint John just expanded its capacity for global trade. Americold officially opened a new temperature controlled warehouse at the port on Thursday, June 18. The launch took place during the annual Port Days 2026 conference. If you live in Saint John, you will see the economic benefits firsthand as the facility supports up to 100 local jobs.

Massive Storage Capacity
The facility holds space for about 22,000 pallets. It sits right next to the DP World terminal. This location makes it the only temperature controlled facility in Eastern Canada directly connected to a port without the need for drayage. Drayage is the transport of goods over a short distance. Skipping this step saves time and money for shippers.
The project is a joint effort between Americold, the CPKC railroad, and DP World. DP World is a Dubai based logistics company that handles roughly 10 percent of global container traffic.
Americold CEO Rob Chambers noted the importance of this setup. He stated, “This facility leverages our collaboration with leading global trade and transportation partners, creating a uniquely integrated solution to move temperature sensitive products between inland production regions and international markets more efficiently and reliably.”
Connecting Saint John to the World
The new warehouse supports traffic moving between Central and Eastern Canada and regions like Europe, South America, and the Asia Pacific.
CPKC CEO Keith Creel highlighted the rail connection. He explained, “By combining this state of the art facility with the three nation rail service of CPKC, we are creating a new temperature controlled supply chain that connects Atlantic Canada to key markets across Canada and throughout North America.”
Doug Smith is the CEO of DP World in Canada. He said, “The operational launch of the Americold facility at Port Saint John represents a major step forward in building a fully integrated cold chain ecosystem on the East Coast of Canada. By combining terminal operations, inland rail connectivity, and advanced temperature controlled storage, we are enabling our customers to move perishable goods more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably to global markets.”
