The City of Saint John has launched its first Flash Ice Sale for the 2026 to 2027 season. This program gives you access to surplus arena ice slots at discounted rates after the seasonal ice allocation process ends. The city releases these available slots every two weeks on a first come first served basis.
Whether you want to organize a birthday party, host a family skate, plan a corporate event, or schedule an extra team practice, Flash Ice provides an affordable way to get on the ice.
Hourly Rates and Booking Details
The city offers three distinct pricing tiers for these hourly rentals plus HST:
- Youth Not for Profit Groups: $83.32
- Adult Not for Profit Groups: $145.76
- For Profit or Commercial Events: $189.37
Tournaments and fundraisers do not qualify for Flash Ice pricing.
You must book your ice time in one hour increments. The current batch of discounted rates applies only to ice rentals taking place between October 14 and October 27, 2026. The deadline to secure your spot for this period is Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Insurance and Account Requirements
The city requires proof of insurance before confirming any booking. If your group lacks insurance, you can purchase coverage through the City of Saint John designated insurance provider for a small fee. For youth bookings made outside an organized group, you must provide parental supervision to qualify for this coverage.
You also need a PlaySJ account to complete your booking. The city recommends creating one before submitting your request so staff can link your account and process your reservation quickly. You can submit booking requests directly to Darrell Fountain, the city Sports Liaison.
Available Arenas
The current Flash Ice availability includes prime morning and evening slots across three local facilities:
- Charles Gorman Arena
- Stewart Hurley Arena
- Peter Murray Arena
