Saint John’s Favourite Trail is Growing
One of Saint John’s most popular active transportation links is getting an upgrade. The City of Saint John is officially moving forward with the design and construction of the Harbour Passage extension. This new section will connect Riverview Avenue and Riverview Drive, further expanding the network that connects our neighbourhoods to the waterfront.
This project aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by providing safe, accessible, and sustainable travel options. The City has confirmed that the project aligns with Common Council’s priorities to GROW, GREEN, BELONG, and MOVE.

What to Expect
The project is scheduled for the 2026 construction season. You can look forward to a new asphalt multi-use trail that matches the standards of the existing passage. The infrastructure upgrades include:
- A paved multi-use trail surface.
- New lighting for safety and accessibility.
- Professional landscaping to beautify the route.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2026 and wrap up by the end of that year. The City notes that they do not expect disruptions to the public during this process.
Public Information Sessions
If you live or own a business in the area, or simply love using the trail, the City encourages you to get involved. A public information session is happening to allow residents to view designs and ask questions directly to City representatives.
