Powering Homes and Creating Jobs
Developed by Prodigy Clean Energy, these plants are built off site and moved to where you need power. This specific project uses BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor technology. It delivers enough baseload power for up to 40,000 homes. The project also boosts the local economy by creating over 150 jobs during development and 40 long term positions once operational.
Indigenous Leadership in Clean Energy
Pabineau First Nation and Eel River Bar First Nation lead this initiative. Their agreement establishes a First Nations owned commercial power generation facility and an energy innovation campus.
The Belledune site serves as a centralized hub for operations, maintenance, and workforce training. This setup supports a future fleet of transportable plants designed to serve northern and remote communities. The project also features an Indigenous Energy Innovation Visitor Centre.
According to the official release, integrating small modular reactors and microreactors into transportable power plants brings reliable and clean nuclear energy to a wider range of locations. This includes remote communities, Indigenous communities, and industrial sites.
