New Brunswickers looking for year round outdoor adventures have a major upgrade to look forward to. Mont Farlagne in Edmundston is receiving a $5.45 million investment to transform the popular ski destination into a four season hub.
The project features a new all season chairlift and significant renovations to the visitor lodge. Funding comes from a combined effort between the federal government, the provincial government, and Cooperative Republik Nature Ltee.
What the Upgrade Includes
The centerpiece of this project is the new chairlift. During the winter, skiers and snowboarders will experience improved safety and service reliability. When the snow melts, the lift will stay open to support mountain biking, hiking, and other warm weather activities.
The visitor lodge is also getting a complete makeover. Crews will install new windows, upgrade the mechanical systems, and improve insulation. The building will feature better accessibility and new flexible community spaces for events throughout the year.
Community Impact and Funding
The federal government is contributing just over $2 million to the project. The province of New Brunswick is adding $395,400, while the cooperative is investing the largest share at over $3 million.
Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis highlighted the importance of this investment for the region.
“Mount Farlagne has been part of Edmundston’s identity for generations,” Marquis said.
Denise Landry Nadeau, a leader of Cooperative Republik Nature Ltee, added that the mountain has brought the community together for nearly 60 years.
