Grant shared the news directly with residents through a Facebook post on March 10. She reflected on her four years as deputy mayor and a decade as mayor. She stated she thoroughly enjoyed her time but feels it is time for new ideas.
A Decade of Growth and Development
During her tenure, Rothesay saw significant changes. Grant highlighted the town’s push to address the housing crisis. Developers built or started construction on 504 new housing units since 2021. These include apartments, townhouses, and single family homes.
The town also expanded its commercial sector and upgraded local infrastructure. Crews resurfaced Rothesay Road, installed new traffic lights, and added lighted crosswalks on Hampton Road. The residential tax rate also dropped from $1.24 in 2021 to $1.17 today.
Recreation remained a major focus for the outgoing mayor. The town upgraded Wells Recreation Park with new sports fields, a dog park, and pickleball courts.
The Rothesay Intergenerational Community Complex
Grant pointed to the Rothesay Intergenerational Community Complex as a major milestone. After 15 years of planning, the town secured provincial and federal funding to move the project forward. The facility will feature a new arena, an indoor walking track, and a community police station. It will also provide a larger home for the Rothesay HIVE Age Friendly Community Centre.
A community fundraising campaign is currently underway to raise $3 million for the complex. Grant plans to stay involved in this initiative. She will remain a member of the fundraising board to help see the project through to completion.
In a follow up post on March 11, Grant thanked residents and town staff for their support. She encouraged everyone to vote and welcome the new mayor and council in May.
