Engine 6 arrived first with a crew of four firefighters. They immediately launched a fire attack and searched the building for occupants. The severity of the blaze prompted a second alarm. This call brought additional personnel to the scene but left city fire resources strained. Only one truck remained in service for the rest of Saint John and both tankers sat unstaffed at their stations.
