“What they have here now is already awesome,” Reid told CBC. “So anything more is better.”

The city insists accessibility remains a central focus of the redevelopment. A new natural playground, currently under construction, features wheelchair accessible components and sensory play areas. The city is also building accessible pathways leading directly to the beach. Meredith Cooper, Fredericton manager of strategic projects, emphasized the inclusive design.

“It’s really meant to be highly inclusive in terms of the features,” Cooper said.

You will not have to wait long to enjoy the finished park. The city will complete the accessible playground within the next two months. The front nine holes of the disc golf course are already open. Crews will finish the back nine and the parking lot upgrades by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the next stage of trail development is in the design phase and awaits budget approval from the city council.
