The City of Saint John is bringing back its free summer recreation initiative for children. The Sunshine Program offers an eight week outdoor focused experience for kids ages 6 to 12.
What to Expect
The city hosts the program at eight locations across Saint John. Daily activities keep children engaged with sports, active games, arts and crafts, and off site adventures.
Morning sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Afternoon sessions run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You need to pick up your children early on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. so staff can hold their weekly meetings.
Important Supervision Rules
This program is not a full time daycare service. You must be home and available throughout the day if your child participates. Staff do not provide supervision during the lunch hour. Children must go home between noon and 1:00 p.m.
Registration Details
The city will release updated information for the 2026 season in late May. This update will include confirmed site locations and online registration details. Officials are currently working with the school district to finalize these locations.
You can register online once the portal opens. You also have the option to register in person during your first visit to your chosen program location.
