A proposed artificial intelligence data centre in Saint John is facing strong opposition from a local Member of Parliament. Conservative MP John Williamson is calling on Premier Susan Holt to reject the project. He warns the facility will overwhelm the provincial power grid and drive up your electricity rates.
Williamson outlined his concerns in an open letter to the Liberal premier. He states that NB Power lacks the capacity to supply the 200 megawatts the facility requires from the grid. Energy Demands and Company Pushback
Beacon Data Centers is the company behind the project. The company says the facility needs 390 megawatts of energy in total. They claim they can produce up to 190 megawatts on site. Williamson wants the company to generate all of its own power. He told The Canadian Press that when he raised this idea with the company several months ago, they refused the suggestion.

The project is already causing political friction. Williamson criticized Premier Holt for promoting the data centre at a major Toronto investment summit earlier this week. The project has not yet received official provincial approval.

We were also told, there,inubg of this land for this project and there would be no smoke stacks permitted. Not sure how you run a gas plant with no stacks! They changed this after the public hearing. What this does is opened the door for more polluters!
