Provincial Funding Boosts the Local Literary Scene
The New Brunswick government is investing $200,000 to support authors across the province. This funding helps local writers develop and publish their works by covering the high costs of producing a book. If you follow the local literary scene, you will see the impact of this investment over the next few years.

According to a report from CTV News Atlantic, the province has already selected the grant recipients. The government will issue these funds over three fiscal years starting in the 2026 to 2029 funding period.
Leaders Highlight the Cultural Impact
Marie Cadieux is the literary and general director of Bouton d’or Acadie and Mouton noir Acadie. She notes that this support arrives at a crucial time.
“As literacy challenges intensify in our province, and as humanity more than ever needs to identify what connects us to one another, this support is very timely,” Cadieux said in the Friday announcement. She added that authors and illustrators act as unparalleled ambassadors for the province and rely on professional publishers to share their work.
This new investment increases the total budget for the provincial Book and Periodical Publishers Operational Support Program. For the 2026 to 2029 period, the total funding now reaches $550,000.
Tourism, Heritage, and Culture Minister Isabelle Theriault highlighted the economic and cultural benefits of the program.
“This increase underscores the importance of the literary sector and its contribution to our province’s identity and economy,” Theriault said. “With this increased funding, we have been able to support three new publishers, bringing the total number of funded publishers to nine.”
