The Saint John Sea Dogs have a new leader behind the bench. According to a report from SaltWire, Jim Hulton is the 13th head coach in the history of the franchise. Team president and general manager Trevor Georgie introduced Hulton during a media conference at TD Station on June 15.

Hulton brings extensive experience in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. He spent 11 years as head coach and 10 years as general manager of the Charlottetown Islanders. He stepped away from that organization on May 28 to pursue new opportunities. During his time in Charlottetown, Hulton compiled a 426 to 356 win to loss record. He won the QMJHL coach of the year award twice and led the Islanders to the final four three times, including a trip to the 2022 QMJHL final series.
Familiar Faces Reunite
The move to Saint John keeps Hulton in the Maritimes and reunites him with a familiar colleague. Hulton and Georgie share a 10 year working relationship. This familiarity played a major role in Hulton’s decision to join the Sea Dogs.
Georgie expressed excitement about welcoming Hulton and his family to the city. He noted that Hulton prepares young men for professional hockey through a culture built on accountability. Georgie added that Hulton’s teams consistently compete hard and exceed expectations.
Guy Girouard Joins Coaching Staff
Hulton is not coming to Saint John alone. Guy Girouard is also joining the Sea Dogs as an assistant coach. Girouard previously served as the associate coach and assistant general manager for the Islanders.
Hulton considers this a massive addition to the program. He trusts Girouard implicitly with the defensemen and the power play. This allows Hulton to narrow his focus on other areas of the team.
