Labour Day brought a wave of activity to the University of New Brunswick as students moved into their dorms for the fall semester. Seniors Prepare for Their Final Year

For many fourth year students, move in day brings mixed emotions. Psychology student Lucy MacLaren traveled from Ontario to complete her degree.

“It is a little sad because it is last year, so it is like the beginning of the end, but yeah I love it here,” MacLaren said. “I just love it here. It is very like Hallmark town, very cute. And everyone is super friendly.”

Carissa Levesque from Grand Falls is entering her final year of the Bachelor of Science program. She looks forward to reconnecting with peers and preparing for her future.

“It is nice to come back to where your friends are, and kind of to like minded people,” Levesque said. “I am going to get ready to actually get into a career. I am going to go into teaching, so I am really excited to get into that.”

New Faces Arrive on Campus

The start of the academic year also welcomes international students and first year freshmen. Elana Iagodina traveled from Germany for an exchange semester.

“Everyone is so lovely and friendly and nice. And I really like the city, it is cute and cozy,” Iagodina said.

First year kinesiology students Zach Robichaud and David Slabodar recently moved from Moncton to begin their university journey.

“I am excited for the new year, I am ready to learn a lot of new things,” Robichaud said.

Slabodar appreciates the local landscape. “I really like the city, it is like on a hill, you can really see the nice view in the background,” he added.

Classes Resume Across New Brunswick

While UNB students head to class on Tuesday, other institutions follow closely behind. Students at Saint Thomas University and the Université de Moncton begin their fall semesters on Wednesday.
